Welcome to your course on applying behavioural psychology in design.
The purpose of our four half-day sessions is to learn the foundations, insights, and models of behavioural psychology with the specific purpose of being able to apply the thinking into product design, language, and research.
Below you’ll find pages where I’ll share reading lists, videos, podcasts, and a memory deck for each workout. These pages ‘unlock’ as we progress through the course.

01
🧠 Session one.
Hello brain!
Our first workout is a relaxed and enjoyable step into the world of behavioural psychology.
We explore how behavioural psychology sits alongside behavioural science, behavioural economics, and its relevance to UX, CX, and customer research. We look into the structure and function of our brains to question how people make decisions, and potentially make you doubt every decision you’ve ever made!
02
🐘 Session two.
Changing behaviour.
Our second workout explores why it’s important to view a project through a behavioural lens.
We examine the approaches that have failed to change customer behaviour, and why. We then explore how we can shift our team's mindset using psychology to promote real-world action.
03
🎯 Session three.
Model behaviour.
We build on the previous session by introducing a process-driven model of behaviour change that you can use across all your projects.
04
🔥Workout four
Behavioural campfire.
Building on the models we introduced in workout three, we start to look at how to put it all together so we can apply a behavioural process in our day-to-day activities.
We’ll step through a new behavioural process model and look over examples which have successfully applied the thinking in financial promotions, communications, and products.
